Fun fact, doing my hair is my least favorite beauty activity ever. Many of the hair care things I do are only in an effort to maximize the amount of time I can keep my hair looking fresh while doing very little work. I’ve spent my entire life caring for long hair, so I’ve learned a few things along the way. Keep reading for my tips for maintaining healthy hair.
Hair Washing – I use this Shampoo & this Conditioner, but only wash my hair on Sunday and Thursday each week. I think it’s pretty well know by now that it’s hugely beneficial to not wash your hair daily. It may take you some time to build up to only 1-2 hair washing days per week. Try to ease into it with something like 3 times per week and go from there.
The Products – I use this clarifying shampoo twice a month. In my experience, a healthy scalp free of buildup is key to maintaining healthier hair and more importantly, key to longer lasting hairstyles. When I get out of the shower I wrap my hair in this Aquis towel, which helps prevent breakage and cuts down on drying time. I also deep condition my hair at least once every two weeks with this mask.
Styling Products – Because I can get away with styling my hair one time per week, I’m not super worried about heat damage. Regardless of frequency though, when using hot tools, it is SO important to use a heat-protectant products, to help eliminate as much damage as possible. Before styling, I mist my hair with this protectant primer followed by a spray of Dream Coat. Dream Coat is crucial for me since we’ve moved closer to the ocean. It humidity proofs my hair – it has heat activated polymers that make hair insanely sleek and glossy, plus it extends the life of a blowout by several days!
Styling Tools – I’ve used this one step blow dryer for years. I recently purchased the newer version of the dryer because I’m such a fan. It provides all the benefits of a round brush blowout without the sore arm, plus it only takes me about 15 minutes to dry my hair. I don’t curl my hair everyday, but when I do I use this curling iron with this strong hold hairspray and run my fingers through the curls to soften the look.
Perhaps I should have titled this post – The lazy girls tips for maintaining healthy hair, but nonetheless, that’s it! Yep, that’s my entire hair routine.
